LONDON, England (CMC) – Midfielder Keanu Marsh-Brown, who represented Guyana in this summer’s CONCACAF Gold Cup, has had his contract with Welsh club Newport County terminated by mutual consent.London-born Marsh-Brown, who has not been in manager Michael Flynn’s good books for some time, said he needed a “new adventure”.A statement from the club, who play in England’s League Two, having narrowly missed out on promotion last season, said: “On behalf of everyone connected with the club, we would like to wish Keanu all the best in the future and thank him for his efforts whilst at Rodney Parade.”Marsh-Brown joined Newport on a two-year deal after leaving Forest Green Rovers, another League Two side, in the summer of 2018.He scored one goal in 24 appearances for Newport in an injury-plagued first season at the club, netting in a victory at Yeovil Town in March. But, after representing Golden Jaguars in their historic appearance at this summer’s Gold Cup, the 27-year-old has not featured in manager Flynn’s plans at all during this campaign.Marsh-Brown said: “The time has come for me to depart from Newport County.“It was a tough decision but I feel it was the right time for a change.“Thank you to all the boys at the club who made my time there special!“Now it’s time to kick on for my new chapter in football. Nice break for Christmas with the family then back to it. New adventure, new home!”Newport are currently 13th in the table.
Source: NYtimes.com Nick Nurse was announced as the winner of the N.B.A. Coach of the Year Award on Saturday after leading the defending champion Toronto Raptors to another 50-win season, this time without Kawhi Leonard.Nurse, who has the Raptors on the verge of the second round of the playoffs, was a runaway winner, receiving 90 first-place votes from a panel of 100 sportswriters and broadcasters. He finished with 470 points. (The New York Times did not participate in voting.)Milwaukee’s Mike Budenholzer was second after leading the Bucks to the best record in the suspended season, earning 147 points. Oklahoma City’s Billy Donovan (134) was third.Nurse led Toronto to its first title last year in his rookie season, becoming the only coach to win an N.B.A. championship and a G League championship. He won titles in 2011 and 2013 at the N.B.A.’s minor league level.Toronto’s celebration last year was just winding down when Leonard decided to join the Los Angeles Clippers. The Raptors hardly missed a beat Leonard, who had been named the most valuable player of the N.B.A. finals. They rolled to a 53-19 record and the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference. They have a 3-0 lead over the Nets and will try to finish off the sweep Sunday.Nurse is 111-43 in two seasons. He has more than validated the Raptors’ decision to fire Dwane Casey in 2018, even though Casey had won the Coach of the Year Award that season after guiding Toronto to a 59-23 record.

Isaiah Austin. Photo from Fiba.comIn a perfect world, Gilas Pilipinas wiould have a pool of naturalized players at its disposal ready for every tournament it joins.Unfortunately for Gilas, Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) vice chairman Robbie Puno said it’s not always the case.ADVERTISEMENT However, Puno said getting the approval is just the tip of the iceberg, with Austin’s application expected to face stiff deliberation from Congress.“I recall that when I filed and appeared in a session in congress to naturalize Andray Blatche, even coach Yeng Guiao said that the naturalization component of our national team has to be a temporary program. We can’t naturalize indefinitely. There’s got to be a time when this is going to stop,” he said.“I cannot present a bill saying that this is the next one, this the one this year, and we’re going to get another one next year. In other countries, the naturalization program may include people who a country wants to get because of exceptional merit and ability. There is no such program in the Philippines. I present the naturalization bills that we file along those lines, but we have to be very careful whenever we launch a naturalization program, it includes a lot of things. @Eden_RichardsAustralia’s Mixed Open side have made it three from three, securing an epic 11-10 come from behind victory to break the hearts of New Zealand. The Aussies scored the last three touchdowns of the match to snatch victory after trailing for majority of the nerve-racking win.Outstanding performances from Ifor Jones and hat-trick hero Mase Parsons was not enough for the Kiwis, with the class of Australian captain Michael Singh helping the Aussies get over the line by the smallest of margins.New Zealand’s effort and determination must be commended, sticking it to Australia from the first moments of the match. It was clear New Zealand had come to play, scoring through Danyon Morgan-Puterangi after just 17 seconds of game time. But Australia made it 1-1 in the 2nd minute, with Adam Pryde beating New Zealand’s defence in the centre of the field. The match was turning into a high-scoring affair when New Zealand hit back straight away, crossing in the 3rd minute through Jones to make it 2-1 very early in the contest. The Aussies evened up the scoreline five minutes in when Tim Glazebrook took advantage of two offside Kiwi defenders to score in the middle of the park.Jones set up New Zealand’s next, with some fantastic interplay putting Bayley Waudby over for a touchdown in the 7th minute to make it 3-2 in their favour. But Australia soon replied, with Glazebrook scoring his second in the 12th minute to level the scoreline at 3-3.The match continued to to-and-fro as New Zealand hit the lead again through Puawai Gardiner with seven minutes to go in the first half, but Aussie captain Singh responded immediately to level it up at 4-4 in the 14th minute. The last two minutes of the first half belonged to the Kiwis, scoring twice in that period to take a much-needed 6-4 lead into the half-time break.Australia woke up after half-time, scoring two minutes after the break through Leah Percy to cut the margin to one touchdown. Two minutes later it was 6-6, with Australia’s Simon Lang crossing to give his side all the momentum in the 24th minute. But New Zealand wrestled back some control of the match five minutes into the second half as Nathan Rollinson crossed for a touchdown to give the Kiwis a 7-6 lead.Singh scored his second to draw Australia level in the 26th minute, but again New Zealand had an answer as they restored their one-touchdown lead through Parsons. The Kiwis looked to be in control 10 minutes from full-time, hitting a 9-7 lead courtesy of an Autumn-Rain Stephens touchdown. However, Australia were not done yet, scoring through Elin Mortimer in the 31st minute to have some hope of a comeback victory. But when Parson’s scored his third touchdown of the match for New Zealand it appeared it wasn’t going to be Australia’s day.Trailing 10-8 to the Kiwis in the 33rd minute, Australia had to be the next team to score. They did just that, crossing through Leah Opie-Lukins to keep the Aussies within reach of victory.Australia scored again with five minutes to go and it was suddenly all locked up with a thrilling finish to come. The Aussies’ never say die attitude saw them hit the lead with two minutes to go, with Zara Nicholas crossing in the left corner.Australia hung on to win 11-10, snatching victory from the jaws of defeat. It was a performance full of tenacity from the Aussies who would not let themselves be beaten.Australia 11 (Glazebrook 2, Singh 2, Nicholas, Mortimer, Costello, Opie-Lukins, Pryde, Lang, Percy touchdowns) defeated New Zealand 10 (Parsons 3, Gardiner, Stephens, Rollinson, Waudby, Morgan-Puterangi, Jones, Takerei touchdowns)Related LinksMixed Open
Souness blasts Arsenal: Proper teams don’t play like thatby Paul Vegasa month agoSend to a friendShare the loveLiverpool legend Graeme Souness rapped Arsenal for their collapse at Watford.Arsenal stormed into a two-goal lead at Vicarage Road as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang took advantage of his team-mates carving the Hornets apart to net twice. But a Sokratis mistake before half time saw Arsenal’s lead halved and Watford went for the jugular after the break.Roberto Pereyra had the final say in the game when he scored from the penalty spot nine minutes before the end. And it was Watford who came closest to winning the contest too through Abdoulaye Doucoure.”If you are an Arsenal supporter watching that you must be scratching your head,” said Souness. “It was as if this is the first team in the first half and then the second team in the second half, they capitulated.”Proper teams don’t play like that.
