On Monday the attorney for Sideline Bar Grills

first_imgOn Monday, the attorney for Sideline Bar & Grill’s owners filed an appeal against the city of Tuscaloosa after the city voted to revoke their business license on April 16.Bryan Winter, the attorney representing Sideline Bar & Grill, said he feels the bar should not have been shut down. And, they’re not going down without a fight.Safety issues led the Tuscaloosa City Council to vote to revoke Sideline’s business license. Back on March 7, two people were shot at the business. The owner of the business said safety measures are in place.Winter said they have also increased the number of security guards and parking attendants to keep people from roaming the parking lot during bar hours.“Basically, we’re seeking to overturn the city council’s decision and it’s something that the clients wanted to do,” Winter said. “They felt very strongly about it, they worked very hard, as you know, to put in all the improvements and invested significant funds to make Sideline meet the requirements of the city council.”According to the complaint filed against the city of Tuscaloosa, on the afternoon of Friday, April 12, 2019, Tuscaloosa Police Chief Steve Anderson and District 7 city councilwoman Sonya McKinstry toured the inside and outside of the bar to review the investments and improvements made by the business’s owners. Anderson testified during the hearing, saying he was able to see the improvements the bar had made.“Councilor McKinstry was asking for the city council to table it for 60 days,” Winter said. “We would have been happy with 30 just to show that those improvements would make a difference. Unfortunately, we don’t fault any of the city council. They make a decision, but we believe that that decision was not based upon the appropriate facts or law.”Glenda Webb, the city’s attorney, said they have received a courtesy copy of the complaint but they have not been officially served and they do not speak on pending litigation.
